Urban Farm BioActive™ Dry ORGANIC POWDERS
As a micro-brewer, we go to great lengths to insure that we are formulating with the highest quality ingredients, and blending them in the correct amounts to achieve the ratios required by a given plant group. We have all of our components lab analyzed so we know exactly what we are working with. We start with large amounts of select bat guanos for fast-acting results up front. Then we go through our list of organic components, choosing the right combinations to give us our target macro and micro ratios for both fast and slow release nutrition.
Right: new this Spring, 2012! Our 6lb BioActive All-Purpose Organic Fertilizer, 100% balanced and complete. We actually formulate, blend, and bag it ourselves. People don't usually think of organic fertilizers as high-performance, but this one is. You should see plants growing on this formula. Awesome!

Bat guanos: we use large amounts of select, expensive, and sustainable guanos from around the world. Bat guanos provide both fast-acting results up front and long term slow release, not to mention tremendous microbial activity in the rootzone. Bat guanos come in endless N-P-K ratios, so we have to pick and choose carefully.
Composted chicken litter: composted chicken litter is potent stuff! We are fortunate to have local producers that supply us with young chicken manure for high-nitrogen formulas, and old chicken manure for more balanced formulas. This helps us use large combinations of components to hit the targeted NPK ratios we know will produce the results gardeners demand.
Soy Meal: another organic nitrogen source for long, slow release.
Worm casts: they don't provide high N-P-K nutrition, but they contribute a ton of
microbial activity and micro-nutrients.
Kelp: large amounts of easily absorbed micro-nutrients.
Mycorrihzae: we use the full, recommended amount of expensive mycorrhizae fungi that is well-documented to aid in releasing existing nutrients in the soil.
Alfalfa meal: we use this as a slow-release nitrogen source.
Cottonseed meal: provides both fast and slow-release nitrogen.
Humic and Fulvic acids: Well known as organic substances that also contribute to the release of existing nutrients in the soil.
Palm Ash: this is an incredible source of fast and slow release potassium, plus
large amounts of micro-nutrients. We bring this in from Asia because it's so good!
Crab Meal: expensive, but worth it for the calcium and chitin. Chitin has been proven to be an effective nematode killer.
Enzymes: plant enzymes are important for breaking down nutrients in the root zone to make them more readily available for absorption.
As we said, every batch of each of the above components is lab-analyzed so we
know exactly where we stand before we start blending. No other fertilizer
company goes to this extreme. The results our customers see is well worth it!
Increasingly we are becoming aware of the need to be shepherds of the soil. Some call it “going green”. This is nothing new at Urban Farm Fertilizers. We have always been aware of what can happen when the rootzone is overwhelmed by mineral salts. That’s why all our formulas, including our liquid concentrates, are blended with natural components. With our dry mixes, we utilize organics exclusively. Top dress, mix with potting soil, or dilute into a watering can. Approximately half of the nutrients are available immediately, and the other half are slowly available over time.
Our BioActive™ Dry dry mix formulas are mirror images of our liquids, in 100% organic powder form. We use many ingredients to hit the target ratios that we know from experience to be optimized for the specific plant range. They are not
applicable for hydroponics.
By using all organic, natural components, we are able to create fertilizers that provide both quick release and slow release nutrients. Precise Urban Farm combinations of bat guanos, enzymes, mycorrhizae, and worm casts also stimulate biological activity in the rootzone.
BioActive™ Dry Organic Powders achieve the same nutrient ratios as our liquids. These are designed for potting mixes, garden top-dressing, watering cans, and spreaders. Specifically selected bat guanos are the base. To that
we add cottonseed meal, kelp, humic and fulvic acids, worm casts, and mycorrhizae in the correct ratios to create our targeted blends. 100% Organic.
